Loughney’s work deconstructs how notions of identity are built up around manufactured ideas of beauty, fantasy, ritual, and desire. When working in collage, he tends to approach contemporary magazines as an anthropological document. Any and all 'excavation' starts by cutting, removing and categorizing the imagery from the page. This commences his in-depth exploration of how identity is promoted, exploited and constructed in material culture.
